Patch
A patch is a sound: every setting in the editor and every curve drawn on the Arc and Motion tabs. It is not the notes. The line on the Pattern tab is kept in a session, see The kiwibass menu.
In the header
The name is the patch you are on, marked when you have changed it since it was loaded or saved. Click it to open the browser.
The arrows step to the previous and next patch in the browser's order. If the current one has unsaved changes you are asked first.
The save button saves the patch. A patch of your own is saved in place. A factory patch cannot be overwritten, so saving one asks for a name, as Save As does.
The browser
Every patch, grouped by category: Sub, Reese, Pluck, Acid, Growl and Other. The factory patches come first, then your own. The list is read again each time it opens, so a patch saved in another Kiwibass window is there to pick.
Saving under a name
Save As asks for a name and a category. The name cannot be empty or the name of a factory patch. Saving under a name you already used replaces that patch.
Where your patches are kept
In the Kiwi preset folder, one folder per category, where every Kiwibass standalone and plugin on the computer finds them:
- Windows:
%APPDATA%\Kiwi\Presets\kiwibass - Linux:
~/.local/share/kiwi/presets/kiwibass, or under$XDG_DATA_HOMEwhen that is set
To take patches to another computer, copy that folder. Patches saved by earlier versions of Kiwibass stay where they were and still list; saving one again moves it here.
The Patch section of the kiwibass menu
New loads Init, the patch with everything at its starting point. Open... opens the browser. Save and Save As... work as above. Ctrl+O opens the browser and Ctrl+S saves.
The factory patches
| Category | Patches |
|---|---|
| Sub | Deep Sub, Boom 808, Kick Sub, Pumping Sub |
| Reese | Wide Reese, Breathing Reese, Rising Tension |
| Pluck | Demo, Rubber Pluck, Glitch Pluck, Hoover Stab |
| Acid | Squelch, Acid Screamer |
| Growl | Growl, Neuro, Wobble, Talking Growl |
| Other | Init, Organ House, Dark Legato |
Demo is where the editor starts. It is also what a double-click on a Voice panel picture resets that control to.
